Welcome to the home of Willem and Alie
Willem
Alie
Willems father was 38 when he came to live on this farm in 1938. In 1965 Willems brother Doeke took over the farm and in 1979 Willem and Alie came to live here.
When you did the Summer Tour of Wetsens, you saw how milking the cows is done now. Below you see a few photo's of howe it was done in 1980.
Then the old cow shed.
Left :
Alie milking.
Right :
Willem pouring the milk in the churns.
On the beams you see something written with chalk. That is the date that a particular cow had to calve.
After milking, cleaning. This time it is Alie's turn.
At the end of the sixties, milking took place outdoors.
End sixties.
Milking in the field.
Early sixties.
Ploughing with horses.
The farmhouse dates from 1929. Before this farmhouse there was at this site another farmhouse. The occupants of that farmhouse you see on the photographs below.
Notice the dress of those days.
Just as in the olden days, farmers try to get as many crops of gras in the summer as possible. This is used as cattle feed in winter. The fresh cut grass is packed together on a big pile and very well covered.
Right you see one ready pile covered with plastic and car tires to keep the plastic in place. Jan is distributing the grass.
Hope to see you again
Bye !
