The wings of the eagle come from the coat of arms of the Jarla family.
The blue bar symbolizes the canal through Wetsens named Jellegat (Jarla's gat).
The red pot is the pot of Saint Vitus.

Vitus is the patron Saint of Wetsens.
Vitus is said to be born in Sicily and became a christian against the will of his parents.   At the age of fourteen he fled with his wet nurse and her husband who was also his teacher, to Southern Italy.   There the three were taken prisoner and taken to Rome.   Vitus is said to have healed the little son of Diocletianus what did not have any influence on the emperor.   After a courageous testimony of his Faith the boy was thrown in boiling oil and when he had survived, he was thrown before the lions.   These kneeled for the boy and licked his feet.   Then the emperor had him and his companions killed by the sword.   A god-fearing woman buried them.

The Frisian Flag

The Frisian flag is founded at the end of the 19th century inspired by a blue tabard with three silver coloured bars whereupon seven red leaves of water lilies.   The tabard comes from Scandinavia.
In 1957 the flag with the leaves of the waterlily has become the official flag of Friesland.

The three white bars on the flag denote the three rural districts named Oostergo, Westergo and Zevenwouden.
The blue bars denote the frisian rivers.
The seven leaves of the water lily denote the the former seven sea lands as they existed between the 8th and 14th century.

2. Frisia between river Vlie and Middelsea (
